Background information
About ERM
The European Restructuring Monitor (ERM) has been monitoring the extent of restructuring activities in Europe and their employment consequences since 2002. Its geographic coverage was extended in May 2005 to cover the 27 EU Member States, plus Norway.
Content generation for the restructuring factsheets database
These pages host a European monitoring tool recording all industrial restructuring cases that:
- affect at least one EU country;
- entail an announced or actual reduction of at least 100 jobs; or
- involve sites employing more than 250 people and affecting at least 10% of workforce; or
- create at least 100 jobs.
Restructuring cases and employment effects are identified through a press review of daily newspapers and business press in the 27 EU Member States and Norway. The data is gathered by an extensive network of correspondents who review national newspapers, specialised economic press and online sources.
Each case is reviewed and recorded in a standardised fact sheet, which allows for the compilation of statistics comparing countries, sectors or types of restructuring.
