Period of time for which an employee has been continuously employed in the same public department or service, in the same occupation or by the same employer. It is an important factor in pay determination, since under Greek law a long-service allowance is paid as a percentage of basic pay. It is also a determining factor for a number of other rights such as annual holiday entitlement, the notice period required in the event of termination of the contract of employment, the amount of severance pay following dismissal, etc.
