EXTRA MONTH'S PAY

Benefits from the employer, equal to a month's pay, paid over and above the normal pay corresponding to the work performed during the twelve months of the year.

The main one is that paid out at Christmas, known as the Christmas bonus in the case of blue-collar workers and the thirteenth month's pay in the case of white-collar workers (see bonuses ).

In some industries, a fourteenth month's pay is also customary, usually paid out just before the summer holidays; in other especially favoured cases further extra months' pay may be received as well. These extra payments are nowadays being criticized and reduced, except for the one paid at Christmas.
