GENERAL STRIKE

ITALY
SCIOPERO GENERALE
GENERAL STRIKE

Strike involving all employees belonging to a given sector of production or, in extreme cases, all sectors. It may be national, or confined to a particular geographical area.

During the first quarter of the present century, the general strike was characterized in both theory and practice by strong class and revolutionary connotations, and even today it remains the most powerful weapon which can be used by the trade union movement in confrontation with political authority and the employers.
