MINISTRY OF EMPLOYMENT AND SOCIAL SECURITY

Government department (referred to as MESS) responsible for defining and prosecuting policies on employment and vocational training, labour and social security. The various services and agencies of which it consists include the Institute for the Improvement and Inspection of Working Conditions , into which the Labour Inspectorate-General has been incorporated (see labour inspection ). Some legal provisions still in force refer to it under its earlier names of Ministry of Corporations and Social Welfare, and Ministry of Labour.
