OCCUPATIONAL UNION

A trade union whose coverage is defined in terms of representing a particular occupation; hence also referred to as a horizontal union. Numerous occupational unions still exist in Portugal, since the present-day union structures largely perpetuate the organizational model imposed during the corporatist period, which favoured association by occupation and on a territorial basis.
