DEMARCATION

UNITED KINGDOM
DEMARCATION

Distinctions between jobs according to the type of worker undertaking them, or the union to which the worker belongs. Traditionally the job will be demarcated on craft lines, for example demarcation between electrical tasks and mechanised tasks. Worker refusal to undertake tasks beyond the demarcation boundary has been seen by management as a restrictive practice and a barrier to achieving functional flexibility through multi-skilling (see flexibility ).
