Studies on the EU and other Global Economies: the role of social partners in tackling the crisis

Conference on the role of social partners in tackling the crisis, 30 November - 1 December 2011, Dublin, Ireland

Venue: Raymond-Pierre Bodin Conference Centre, Eurofound, Wyattville Road, Dublin, Ireland

Objectives

This conference follows in a series of seminars that seek to compare trends and approaches in different global regions and their impact on European industrial relations systems. In the context of this event, Eurofound will continue its comparative work on industrial relations developments in the EU, Japan, USA, Brazil, China and India with a particular focus on the challenges posed by the recession. Combining practical examples with exchange of experiences, the seminar will seek to develop a better understanding of the role that the social partners can play to assist in recovering from the recession.

Content

The first day of the conference will be dedicated to a series of high-level interventions looking at how to deal with the social challenges during the global economic crisis. Building on these discussions, different global approaches will be explored to assess alternative paths to global recovery and growth sustainability.

Day two will examine various experiences of social dialogue in European countries and at various levels, European, national, sectoral, company level with the overall objective of assessing the role that social dialogue can play in helping Europe to deal with the social challenges it currently faces.

Representatives of the EU Institutions, EU level social partners national governments, trade unions and experts responsible for dealing with social dialogue and related issues will offer their insights on the way forward.

A programme and presentations are available.
