04 May 2012: Ireland- EWCO CAR on Use of Alcohol/Drugs at the Workplace (Ireland / National Contribution)
This CAR outlines developments in Ireland relating to use of alcohol and drugs at the workplace as of September 2011. Legal measures and collective agreements relating to issues like testing tend to focus on certain sectors, notably the transport and defence sectors. There are also general guidelines covering testing provided by the Health and Safety Authority, as well as Ireland’s largest employer association and trade union respectively. However, these guidelines are voluntary and not legally binding.
21 March 2012: Sharp increase in flexible working during the recession (Ireland / Information update)
A new study for the Equality Authority by researchers from the Economic and Social Research Institute on flexible working during the recession found a ‘marked increase’ in flexible working in Ireland in 2009 compared with a study carried out in 2003. In 2009, 30% of employees worked flexible hours including flexitime, 25% worked part time, 12% regularly worked from home and 9% were job-sharing. The study also looked at flexible working arrangements by sector and by gender.
