Attractive workplace for all
The Foundation project Attractive workplace for all: A contribution to the Lisbon Strategy at company level aimed at identifying and analysing company case studies from seven countries (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and UK), showing how the Lisbon strategy is being implemented on the ground at company level. The involvement of the social partners at company and sectoral level is a significant aspect of the development of these policies and their outcomes.
The 105 case examples were organised under the following six thematic orientations, which reflect key dimensions of the Lisbon strategy.
- Fostering employability (human resources development
in companies)
Maintaining and enhancing employee competence levels and enabling them to respond to the demands of the workplace; fostering transferability of acquired skills and competences - Increasing labour market participation of underrepresented groups: women, young
employees, older workers
Training and apprenticeship schemes, family-friendly measures - Integration into the labour market of people at risk
of exclusion (early school leavers and long-term
unemployed)
Specific initiatives to enable people at risk of exclusion to take up jobs in the regular labour market - Make work pay, make work attractive
Examples of formula-based company profit-sharing initiatives - Towards a balanced flexibility
Good practices on flexible working time - Business creation and entrepreneurship
Role of larger companies as local drivers of business, employment creation, expansion, spin-offs, etc.
For future research, a feasibility study was also conducted in four new Member States (Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, and Slovenia). Large and foreign-owned companies could be potential sources as policies are often better structured, given the large-scale resources available.
