Individual reports
Cases may be exploratory or illustrate instances of good practice. Most cases are at company level but there are also examples at sectoral, cluster and national level.
Case study collections
Some short cases are published as collections or databases of cases on a common theme.
- Impact of the recession on age management policies - Case studies (18) and country reports (9) - Date: 2011
The research looked at policy in relation to the retention of older workers (aged 50 or more) in employment at national and company levels in nine EU Member States.
- Workers with care responsibilities - Date: 2009-2010
This database highlights some 50 company initiatives that support workers with dependent-care responsibilities in 11 European Member States.
- European network of cities for local integration policies for migrants (CLIP) - Date: 2008-2010
- the first module researched by CLIP was on housing – segregation, access to, quality and affordability of housing for migrants - and six case studies are available
- a second module Equality and diversity in jobs and services examined policies and practices in twenty five cities in terms of municipal employment and municipal service provision
- the focus of the third module was on intercultural policies and intergroup relations in 17 cities
- the final module looked at ethnic entrepreneurship - and 18 case studies are available.
- Tackling undeclared work (100 cases) Date: 2007-2009
Undeclared work can be defined as work which is in itself legal but is not declared to the authorities for tax, social security and/or labour law purposes. Across the 27 Member States of the European Union (EU27), a great deal of effort is being invested into developing and testing policy measures that aim to tackle undeclared work. This set of cases constitute a first step in reviewing the effectiveness of the policy measures adopted in five countries – Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom (UK).
- Codes of conduct and framework agreements (10 cases) Date: 2007
The aim of this research was to assess the impact of codes of conduct and international framework agreements (IFAs) at company level, both from an analytical perspective and from a practical angle by analysing case studies of good practice. A series of 10 case studies into companies which have a code of conduct, an international framework agreement or both tools was carried out in 2007.
- Attractive workplace for all (102 cases) Date: 2006-2007
These cases are examples of 'win-win situations', showing that it is possible to combine quality of work and employment with economic performance. They deal with key dimensions of the Lisbon strategy such as employability, increasing the labour market participation of underrepresented groups and people at risk of exclusion, pay, flexibility, and business creation and entrepreneurship.
- Employment guidance services for people with disabilities (56 cases) Date: 2006-2007
This database of employment guidance services contains case studies from 16 EU Member States. These have been selected on the basis that they adopt new or enhanced approaches to providing employment services for the target group of people with disabilities or chronic illness.
- Ageing workforce (200 cases) Date: 2005-2007
The retention of older workers in employment is an important objective not only of labour market policies but also for social protection budgets. The Foundation has gathered and analysed cases of good practice in age management, designed to improve job opportunities and working conditions for older workers. Each case study describes how the organisation approached the issue and what the results were in the medium to long term.
- European Works Councils (51 cases) Date: 2003-2006
The aim of the project was to describe how European Works Councils function in reality. A series of 10 case studies were carried out between January and July 2006 in Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia as a follow up to a number of case studies on European Works Councils (EWCs) already done in 2003.
- Social public services (97 cases) Date: 1999-2001
The Foundation has produced an online casebook of best practice in Europe. The work was carried out in the late 1990s and published in 2001. The casebook gives examples from all the fifteen member states at that time and covers four client groups. The Foundation’s research examined the impacts of quality improvement initiatives on both service to clients and on working conditions.
