Being subjected to violence and harassment at work has a marked impact on workers’ health and productivity; it also undermines the sustainabilty of work over the life course. A new comparative report from Eurofound looks at the extent of violence and harassment in the workplace in the EU28 and Norway, using the results of national surveys conducted between 2009 and 2013, as well as the results of Eurofound’s fifth Working Conditions Survey from 2010.
Findings from national surveys indicate that women are more likely to report having experienced violence and harassment than men; also vulnerable are workers in sectors where there is substantial contact with customers, clients and patients – transport and storage, accomodation and food services and health and social work.
