Swedish presidency 2023: Eurofound's contribution
From January to June 2023, Eurofound supported the work of Sweden's presidency of the Council of the EU, providing valuable research results on specific topics linked with the presidency priorities.

Eurofound contributes to a range of different meetings and events, providing expertise in the areas of employment, social and work-related policies and preparing supporting documentation as requested by the presidency. See some examples of our contributions below.
Eurofound’s Agnès Parent-Thirion, Senior Research Manager in the Working Life unit, took part in the panel on Climate change and heatwaves and OSH, highlighting Eurofound research on job quality and the green transition.
Eurofound’s Executive Director, Ivailo Kalfin, spoke at the first plenary session looking at how transitions are influencing the labour market and, more specifically, how to prevent mismatch between skills and jobs in times of transition. On request by the Swedish presidency, Eurofound also prepared a background paper as a basis for the discussion.
Eurofound’s Massimiliano Mascherini, Head of Social Policies unit, introduced the theme of the conference by presenting an overview of Eurofound’s latest findings on housing, including issues linked to housing exclusion and homeless people, housing insecurity, housing costs and highlighting the situation of vulnerable groups.
At the request of the Swedish presidency, Eurofound prepared a background paper for this meeting on Trends in national social dialogue as response to external shocks or crises, covering the period from the financial crisis of 2008 until today. Ricardo Rodriguez Contreras, Research Manager in Eurofound’s Working Life unit, delivered a presentation based on Eurofound’s background paper.
Eurofound Deputy Director Maria Jepsen was a keynote speaker at 10am on 14 February 2023, introducing the session Good practices and innovative ideas concerning how to attract workers with the right skills to the long-term care sector. Maria introduced the topic by explaining the challenges facing the care sector and compared the experiences of different EU Member States. She discussed the notion of right skills, explained why EU Member States struggle to attract and retain workers with the right skills, elaborated on how this issue could be dealt with, and contemplated on what role technology could play moving forward.
