This graph shows the percentage of respondents in 28 Member States and 5 EU candidate countries who frequently have to care for children, grandchildren or people with disabilities – or who are responsible for housework. It shows values from 2016, broken down into country figures, along with the EU28 average.

The data was collected as part of Eurofound’s European Quality of Life Survey. It was recorded with question Q42 ‘In general, how often are you involved in any of the following activities outside of paid work? a. Caring for and/or educating your children; b. Caring for and/or educating your grandchildren; c. Cooking and/or housework; d. Caring for disabled or infirm family members, neighbours or friends under 75 years; e. Caring for disabled or infirm family members, neighbours or friends aged 75 or over’.
