General Confederation of Labour (Confédération générale du travail, CGT)

In 2016, the General Confederation of Labour (Confédération générale du travail, CGT) focused on the unionisation of self-employed platform workers in its 2016 annual congress. Since then it has encouraged the creation of local unions with the aim to defend and represent platform workers’ interests. In the south-west region of Gironde (Bordeaux) for example, the bike courier CGT union has been established, which represents around 700 food delivery riders of various platforms such as Foodora, Deliveroo and Uber Eats (for more information on the regional/local unions see here).
