Sweden: Focus on gender equality in collective agreements
The Swedish government has asked the National Mediation Office to carry out research on collective agreements, as part of its work to help close the gender pay gap.
The National Mediation Office (Medlingsinstitutet) will analyse central collective agreements to gauge if they have had any effect on reducing the gap between women's and men’s wages. The details are set out in the government’s letter of regulation for 2015. Local social partners will be helped to look at wage issues from a gender perspective (in Swedish) by representatives from the National Mediation Office who will meet them to encourage them to reduce the gender pay gap (in Swedish).
This task complements the current analysis of wage trends from a gender perspective being carried out by the office. A progress report will be sent to the Ministry of Labour by 30 September 2015.
