CONTRATO DE APRENDIZAGEM
APPRENTICESHIP CONTRACT

Special contract formalizing the relationship between an apprentice and the enterprise (which must be one recognized as suitable for the purpose by the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training ) in which their practical training takes place (see apprenticeship ). Under such a contract the enterprise undertakes to impart to the apprentice the vocational training necessary in order to practise a skilled occupation, and the apprentice undertakes to perform the tasks inherent in this training. An apprenticeship contract terminates by mutual agreement, unilateral termination or lapse, and the enterprise must notify the local Employment Office of its termination, stating the reason. An apprentice may terminate the contract freely, although in the case of minors the validity of such termination is subject to the consent of their parent or guardian. The enterprise, on the other hand, may terminate the contract unilaterally only when there is just cause. An apprenticeship contract does not place either party under an obligation to go on to conclude a subsequent contract of employment.
