ASSOCIATION-LEVEL AGREEMENT

Term used to refer to a collective agreement between an employers' association and a trade union . Nowadays, such agreements are the general pattern. Although the collective bargaining regions (approximately 3,000) are equally divided between individual company and association-level regions, and the 32,000 collective agreements currently valid include some 8,000 company agreements, association-level agreements are of paramount importance in collective industrial relations. They ultimately govern the employment relationships of some 18.5 million employees, whereas only 500,000 employees are covered by company agreements.
