CONCILIATION HEARING

A compulsory first step of the "Urteil" procedure in the Labour Courts is a preliminary conciliation hearing to seek to bring about a compromise (Labour Courts Act § 54). During this session the president of the chamber has to discuss the whole dispute with the parties as regards the facts of the matter and the legal position and in the light of an assessment of the evidence presented. Approximately 50 per cent. of the disputes brought before the Labour Courts are settled by compromise at a conciliation hearing.
