NATIONAL EMPLOYMENT AGENCY

Public agency (referred to as ANPE) which comes under the Minister for Labour and is responsible for helping individuals who are seeking employment, training or career guidance in changing their occupation or achieving advancement in their existing occupation, and for helping employers in the hiring or re-training of employees.

Although ANPE formerly had a monopoly as a public service for the placement of job-seekers , this has ceased to be the case since a reform of 1986 (see job placement ).

Any worker who is seeking employment must apply to the local ANPE office for registration on its list of job-seekers . These lists are used to compile unemployment statistics.
