NATIONAL GENERAL COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT

General multi-industry agreement (referred to by the acronym ΕΓΣΣΕ) which is usually signed in the early months of each year and applies throughout Greece. It is concluded between the Greek General Confederation of Labour (third-level trade union organization) and the Federation of Greek Industries and General Confederation of Greek Small Businesses and Trades, the latter two being employers' organizations of extended or national coverage. Until the new Law 1876 of 1990, the main purpose was to determine minimum levels of pay, but also to regulate working time and a few other matters of an institutional nature. Since then, the potential scope has been much widened. See bargaining level .
