Depending on the branch of the public service in which they work, the pay of career public servants in Austria falls into one of the following pay categories (Besoldungsgruppen): 1) General administration; 2) Candidate judges, judges and public prosecutors; 3) University teachers; 4) Teachers; 5) Schools inspectorate staff; 6) Police forces; 7) Armed forces, regular officers; 8) Postal services and telecommunications staff; 9) Health services staff. Under the Career Public Service Pay Act (Gehaltsgesetz), their monthly pay is made up of their basic salary plus various supplements and allowances such as seniority allowances, special duties allowances, local supplements, family allowances, etc.
