REHABILITATION

Concept encompassing integration or reintegration into normal life from a medical, occupational and social point of view, in the context of policy on the disabled and in situations following accidents or serious illness; integration into working life plays a central role. Since the 50th amendment of the General Social Insurance Act, rehabilitation has been an obligatory element of health insurance provision. An application for an invalidity pension is essentially an application for rehabilitation; only when there is no improvement in the applicant's state of health can entitlement to a pension be awarded indefinitely. On occupational and social rehabilitation, see also disabled persons, Federal Welfare and Disabled Persons Agencies.
