GRATIFICACIONES EXTRAORDINARIAS SPECIAL BONUSES |
Pay supplements relating to a period of more than a month; also called pagas extraordinarias or, for short, pagas extras (special payments). Although they were originally exceptional or special supplements, they now form part of wage/pay and must be paid regularly as a right, which makes their name equivocal. Spanish law recognizes the right to two special payments, though this number is usually increased by the contract of employment or collective agreement. Their amount is normally negotiated individually or collectively. They may be paid in a lump sum, or monthly on a pro rata basis ( end-of-service pro rata entitlements ). Profit-sharing is a particular form of special bonus.
