AUSTRIA
STAND-BY/ON-CALL
RUFBEREITSCHAFT

Situation where employees are required to keep themselves available to the employer to be summoned to report for work within a reasonable time in the event of need or emergency. Here, availability merely implies being contactable, at home or elsewhere. Its differentiation from the situation of being on-call while having to remain on the work premises (Arbeitsbereitschaft) is important in Austrian law from the point of view of classification as working time and hence entitlement to pay (see working hours/working time), although in English both situations may actually be referred to alike as on-call.
