WORKS AGREEMENT

Local agreement between the employer and the works council covering matters relating to the enterprise. In terms of content, such agreements may deal with a varied range of topics. Likely examples include company policy in the economic sphere, such as investment policy and policy on profit sharing, but these agreements may also deal with labour-related matters such as personnel policy, hiring policy, rules on part-time work, time off, etc. Regulation of such works agreements, which are at present of uncertain status but are becoming increasingly widespread, is expected to be added to the Works Councils Act by the end of 1996.
