It is increasingly common for workers in the EU to take up paid work after retirement. This trend adds an important dimension to the current discourse on extending working lives. Facilitating work after retirement for those who want to work can contribute to sustainable pension systems. This study investigates retirees’ motivations for seeking paid work and their opportunities for gaining employment. It examines the extent to which work after retirement is related to income adequacy among the retired population. It also explores the types of paid employment that retirees take up and identifies ways in which companies seek to recruit and retain retirees. The report concludes with recommendations for governments, employers and retirees.

    Es cada vez más frecuente que los trabajadores en la UE realicen un trabajo remunerado después de la jubilación. Esta tendencia añade una dimensión importante al discurso actual sobre la prolongación de la vida laboral. Facilitar trabajo tras la jubilación a las personas que desean seguir en activo puede contribuir a la sostenibilidad de los sistemas de pensiones. Este estudio investiga las motivaciones de los jubilados para buscar un empleo remunerado y sus oportunidades de lograrlo. En él se examina en qué medida el trabajo después de la jubilación guarda relación con la idoneidad de los ingresos entre la población jubilada. Estudia asimismo los tipos de empleo remunerado que los jubilados aceptan e identifica los modos en que las empresas desean contratar y retener a los jubilados. El informe concluye con recomendaciones para los gobiernos, los empresarios y los jubilados.
