Physical work factors

PDF version Printer-friendly version

The Fourth Working Conditions Survey (2005) shows that workers continue to be exposed to physically stressful environments. When looking at specific job hazards and risks, the actual exposure to risks seems to have remained relatively stable or even increased slighlty, especially in the case of physical strain factors (tiring or painful positions and carrying or moving heavy loads).

There is a very strong link between the pace and intensity of work and reported health problems. Workers exposed to high intensity are more likely to report tiring and painful positions.

The recent Foundation study 'Employment guidance services for people with disabilities' examines the practice of employment guidance and counselling services in facilitating long-term claimants in returning to work.
