In the fourth European Working Conditions Survey, the fieldwork (data collection) was carried out from September to November 2005. In total, 2,745 interviewers visited 72,300 households out of which 29,766 interviews were actually carried out.
The overall response rate of the 2005 survey was 0.48 calculated according to the proportion of completed interviews to the total number of eligible households (AAPOR Response Rate 3). This is a reasonable response rate for a survey of these characteristics (a random route survey with employed persons as the target population). In most countries, the response rates are around the average of 0.5 or above, with eight countries below a 0.4 response rate (Netherlands, Switzerland, Luxemburg, Belgium, UK, Finland, Poland and Slovenia).
