Nils Brandsma – Unit A: Working Life

After I completed a Master’s degree in International Relations with a focus on Political Economy, I joined Eurofound as a trainee in July 2019. Previously I had completed two Bachelor's degrees in Political Science and Economics at Stockholm and Södertörn Universities. In my Masters thesis I examined changes to land, labour and money in Sweden since 1985.

During the writing of that thesis, I came across Eurofound’s work and greatly benefited from their research and data. I found that the multi-year cross-country survey data on working conditions in the EU is an invaluable tool to researchers, policy makers and other stakeholders, and when I saw a call for traineeships, I decided I had to apply.

Since starting my traineeship, I have found that the working life at Eurofound is very engaging. Both the social and the working environment impressed me, and the fact that I could participate in many projects that interested me was very exciting, such as the published Working Time 2017-2018 report and the 7th round of the EWCS survey. I got to work alongside more senior colleagues who always provided support when needed, but also were interested in listening to my ideas. Overall, my experience at Eurofound has been positive and a great learning experience.
