A good practice guide for eliminating wage gaps between men and women was recently launched by the Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises CEPYME). The report outlines the business benefits that equal pay can bring to a company.

In September 2015, the Spanish Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises (CEPYME), in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Social Services, presented a good practice guide for the elimination and prevention of salary gaps between men and women. The project received financial support from the Economic European Area and the Women's Institute (Instituto de la Mujer, Ministerio de Sanidad, Servicios Sociales e Igualdad).

One of the conclusions of the report is that, thanks to existing regulations in Spain, inequality between men and women is slowly decreasing in the labour market. The report highlights the fact that equal pay, in addition to complying with the current legislation, can generate various benefits for companies. The benefits include:

  • greater ability to attract and retain talent;
  • having a staff that shares the culture, values and business objectives;
  • better labour relations and better working environment;
  • having a team that is motivated and involved with the organisation;
  • enhanced human resources and therefore greater productivity.
