A collective agreement giving Danish public sector workers a 4.45% pay rise over the next three years has been agreed by the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Central Federation of State Employees’ Organisations. In return, the unions have agreed to take no industrial action while the agreement is in force.

A heated debate broke out in autumn 2014 about the introduction of a statutory national minimum wage in Denmark. The call for renewed discussion from the President of the Confederation of Professionals in Denmark (FTF) was met with opposition from most employees’ and employers’ organisations, which argued for retention of the Danish labour market model.

For the first time since the crisis began in 2008, the renewal of collective agreements in the private sector gives grounds for optimism. Not only do the new agreements cover three years, union members also voted to accept the proposed settlement with the biggest 'yes' vote since the turn of the millennium.

On 7 January 2014, a new round of collective bargaining started in Denmark in the private sector, under the auspices of the Danish Confederation of Danish Trade Unions (LO ) and the Confederation of Danish Employers (DA ). In early February 2012, the Financial Services’ Union (FF ) and the Union of Insurance Employees (DFL ) signed new collective agreements with the Danish Employers’ Association for the Financial Sector (FA ).
