Short-term labour market forecast
Coverage/Eligibility
The results of the short-term labour market forecast survey are representative of Hungarian entreprises in terms of geographic location, economic sector, and number of employees. In 2019, a total of 6,856 companies participated in this representative survey.
The survey results are used to analyse the current situation of the Hungarian labour market and to make predictions on the short-term future trends of the labour market situation in the country.
Main characteristics
The Institute for Economic and Enterprise Research of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MKIK GVI) in cooperation with the Ministry of Innovation and Technology (previously with the Ministry of Finance) carry out short-term (one-year) forecasts of labour market changes, providing information on macro-economic indicators, current and expected business situation, characteristics of employment, and labour shortage. The research also provides a forecast of expected changes in labour demand for different types of enterprises at the regional level.
These projections are useful to companies for monitoring short-term labour market trends, and to the national government, in planning and preparing for shifts in the labour market.

Effectiveness
In 2019 a total of 6,8562 companies took part in this representative survey regarding predicted staff levels in the year ahead.
These forecasts are useful for companies for monitoring short-term labor market trends and for the national government to plan and prepare for labour market changes. Labour demand forecasts are important indicators for economic cycle projections, too.
Strengths
It is a representative research, repeated on an annual basis and it provides a complex analysis.
It is a long-time series and produces comparable survey results: the survey has been conducted since 2011 with unchanged content.
Weaknesses
The forecast only focuses on the changes in the following year, while longer-term changes in the Hungarian labour market are currently not considered.
