Changing practices in management control

Nowadays, managers increasingly require information on changes in market
conditions because of growing competitiveness and changes in the structure
and business strategy of organisations. The systems of management control
play an important role in the competitive capacity of companies.
Impact of reward practices on perception of fairness and job satisfaction
03 maí 2010
The changes imposed by global competitiveness make organisations more
receptive to the implementation of measures for rapid adaptation to new
market demands. In this context, organisations have a growing interest in
implementing reward systems to incentivise workers to commit to
organisational goals. These systems consist of variable reward practices
based on recognition of the worker’s contribution to the results of the
business through their work performance and in an effort to increase their
motivation and productivity. This topic was addressed in a recent master’s
thesis on human resources (HR) development policies.
Employment implications of job–skills mismatch
04 March 2010
A research team from the Economic Policy Research Unit at the Department of
Economics of the School of Economics and Management at Minho University
(Núcleo de Investigação em Políticas Económicas do Departamento de
Economia da Escola de Economia e Gestão, Universidade do Minho) in
northwestern Portugal led a study analysing the incidence of under-education
and over-education, and its implications for wages and workers’ job
mobility in Portugal. The analysis is particularly relevant given the
remarkable increase in the last 30 years in the proportion of workers with
higher educational levels, especially university education. This has,
however, happened in a context where the active population is still mostly
characterised by low educational levels.
