What determines life satisfaction and happiness? How do we value our social situation and immediate surroundings? How has this changed with the economic crisis? For the third wave of the European Quality of Life survey, 35,500 Europeans in all EU Member States were interviewed, in an effort to gain insights to these questions. This overview report presents findings and trends and shows that the impacts of the recession are indeed noticeable and measurable in some areas, while in others there are more long-term developments to be observed. While overall life satisfaction levels have not changed much, optimism about the future and trust in institutions have declined markedly in those countries most affected by the downturn. And groups that were already vulnerable – the long-term unemployed, older people in central and eastern Europe and single parents – report the highest levels of material deprivation and dissatisfaction with their life situation.

    Qualità della vita in Europa: le ripercussioni della crisi - Sintesi

    Autore(i):
    Eurofound
    Quali fattori determinano la soddisfazione nei confronti della vita, la felicità, il modo in cui valutiamo la nostra situazione sociale e l’ambiente circostante e come sono cambiati tali aspetti con la crisi economica? Per il terzo ciclo del sondaggio europeo sulla qualità della vita sono stati intervistati 35 000 cittadini europei fra tutti gli Stati membri. La presente relazione generale ne illustra i risultati e le tendenze, oltre a dimostrare il carattere evidente e quantificabile degli effetti della recessione. Mentre i livelli generali di soddisfazione per le condizioni di vita non hanno registrato grandi cambiamenti, l’ottimismo sul futuro e la fiducia nelle istituzioni sono diminuiti in modo considerevole nei paesi maggiormente colpiti dalla flessione dell’economia. Inoltre, i gruppi già riconosciuti come vulnerabili – costituiti dai disoccupati di lunga durata, dagli anziani che vivono in Europa centrale e orientale e dai genitori soli – riferiscono i livelli più alti di privazione materiale e d’insoddisfazione per le proprie condizioni di vita.

  • European Quality of Life Surveys

    The European Quality of Life Survey (EQLS) is carried out every four to five years since its inception in 2003, with the latest edition in 2016. It examines both the objective circumstances of people's lives and how they feel about those circumstances and their lives in general. It covers issues around employment, income, education, housing, family, health and work–life balance. It also looks at subjective topics, such as people's levels of happiness and life satisfaction, and perceptions of the quality of society.

  • European Quality of Life Survey 2012
