Organisation of working time: Implications for productivity and working conditions – Overview Report

The report examines working time flexible arrangements implemented in five companies of the retail and automotive sector in Hungary and Belgium and the Netherlands using the case study methodology. The main aim of this research was to explore and show whether and under what conditions working time flexible arrangements in companies are implemented and can increase productivity and at the same time preserve or improve quality of work in general and especially with regard to work–life balance.
National-level tripartism and EMU in the new EU Member States and candidate countries (comparative study)

This comparative study examines the role that national-level ‘social pacts’ between governments and social partners might play in paving the way for the new EU Member States and candidate countries to join EU Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and introduce the euro single currency. It points to the crucial part that social dialogue is likely to play in the future EMU convergence process.

This report is part of a series of projects from the Foundation which focuses on aspects of industrial relations in the run-up to enlargement. The national report for Hungary is part of the second phase of a project on ‘Social dialogue and EMU’ carried out by the Foundation in 2002-3, in cooperation with the Swedish ‘Work Life and EU Enlargement’ programme. This paper gives an overview of the state of conflict resolution in Hungary and puts forward some proposals to increase the efficiency of pre-court conflict resolution. The main report (EF0421) provides an overview of the whole project, looking at the current mechanisms for resolving industrial conflicts prevailing in each of the ten acceding countries involved in the project.
