The sharing economy in the UK

The main focus of this report is on the development of the sharing economy in the lodging or accommodation sector. Most data stem from Euromonitor International’s Travel system. The report describes the increase in economic efficiency due to sharing economy platforms, and explains why this is not captured in GDP. Further, it discusses the statistics needed to inform suitable policies, based on a new typology of the sharing economy. Lastly, the report calls for the collection of better evidence on the sharing economy as an important part of the digital transformation of business, as a priority.
