UK: Fathers given the right attend antenatal appointments
Fathers have been given the right to take unpaid leave to attend two antenatal appointments with their pregnant partner.
A guide for employers published by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) details:
- eligibility;
- the amount of time off that can be taken;
- the employee’s right to redress if a request for time off is refused.
The new rules came into force for employed fathers – or a pregnant woman’s partner – on 1 October 2014.
