Portugal: Jobs threat to 16,000 ‘precarious’ workers

The new management at Portugal Telecom announced plans to make 16,000 ‘precarious’ workers redundant as part of its efforts to reduce outsourcing in response to the financial crisis. The Association to Combat Job Insecurity – Inflexible Precarious has met with trade unions, the Union of the Workers of Portugal Telecom and Enterprises (STPT), the National Union of Telecommunications and Audio-Visual Media Workers (SINTTAVV), the Posts and Telecommunications Workers’ Union (SINDETELCO) and the National Union of Postal and Telecommunications Workers (SNTCT) to plan joint action to oppose the cuts.
