2 Sisters Food Group has announced plans to close one of its sites with the loss of 555 jobs. The firm has stated that it believes that its products can be produced more efficiently elsewhere than at the site in Witham, Essex. 2 Sisters has said that it will look at redeployment opportunities for staff at two of its locations in Norfolk, and the Unite union has pledged to try to avoid compulsory redundancies. The statutory consultation process is due to begin imminently.
UPDATE 05/07/2019: The closure of the 2 Sisters site in Witham has been confirmed. The announcement confirms that all 528 positions at the business will close, though around 100 positions will be relocated to other sites in the Eastern region. The announcement also confirmed the time frame for the process; the closure is expected to be completed by the end of August 2019.
