Akzo Nobel has reduced its workforce by 2,230 (66,360 on June 30th, 67,880 on December 31th). The company has cut jobs in its three main business areas: pharmacy (approximately 440 jobs lost), coatings (some 1,290 jobs lost) and chemicals( some 450 jobs lost). February 2004. Diosynth, part of the Pharma branch, has announced a restructuring across the world. To face the declining demand, Diosynth is reducing its capacity by closing its site in Mexico, scaling back facilities in the Netherlands and reducing its production capacity at Buckhaven (Scotland) site. Workforce reductions will directly affect a total of approximately 350 employees. For each site, consultation involving unions and works councils is being, or will be, undertaken as appropriate.
