The mechatronics company Comer Industries announced to employee workplace representatives and trade unions its intention to close down its historic Cavriago plant and transfer all the workers to the production unit of Reggiolo. This will entail the relocation of all the 150 direct employees and the temporary agency workers employed in the plant.
According to the company, the relocation will take place by September 7, 2020.
The trade unions deemed the decision as unacceptable since th company just paid dividends for around €7 million. The workers will have to travel 2 hours more per day to get to the new place of work. Immediately after the announcement, workers started a strike and the picketing of the plant. Negotiations over the decision are currently undergoing.
