Description
Corus, the Anglo-Dutch steel group, accelerated the retrenchment of its UK operations yesterday by announcing the closure of its heavy section mill at Scunthorpe later this year with the loss of 156 jobs. It is shedding a further 80 jobs at the Lincolnshire plant. Corus sugared the pill of further job losses by saying it would invest £32m in steelmaking and production facilities for rod and plate products at Scunthorpe - on top of £12m already put in to modernise the plant this year.
