Delhaize Group, a supermarket chain, announced a restructuring plan in which 14 stores are to be closed with the loss of 2500 post while wage and working conditions of the remaining personnel will be reviewed. The restructuring plan was announced in June 2014, but at the request of the trade unions, social negotiations were postponed until September. Little by little, it becomes clear that Delhaize is considering the option of giving the targeted stores the possibility to continue in a franchise agreement and that the remaining employees will have to suffer reductions in their salaries. Discussions are now more focusing on the salary reductions. Since 2 October, no more information has been given on the planned closures and/or job losses. No concrete information on the employment effect start is available yet.
