Additional Information

Since 1997 the German mining industry is regulated by the 'Kohlekompromiss', which foresees a gradual reduction of coal production and state aids into the sector until 2005. To meet these conditions set by the EU, DSK plans the closure of two mines by the end of 2005, which will lead to a loss of 5,500 jobs. Redeployment programmes (including training possibilities) have been set up to avoid any direct dismissals; these programmes are managed by DSK.
