Additional Information

On 13 September, the postal and courier operator La Poste announced a recruitment plan of 15,000 new employees by 2014. However, its workforce will decrease by 1,000 to 5,000 positions overall, as some of the retired staff will not be replaced.

The group has increased its projection of job creation on the basis of an external report by a commission led by Jean Kaspar, the former secretary of the CFDT union. A commission of experts was introduced by La Poste after two employees' suicides, in February and March, linked to professional reasons. The group extended its 2012-14 recruitment plan from 10,000 to 15,000 employs in an effort to decrease the pressure on employees and to slow down the permanent reorganisation process. 5,000 out of 15,000 recruitments will be young people on apprenticeship contracts.

At the same time, the natural departures through retirement will reach 8,000 and 10,000 positions per year. The unions argue that the number of retirements per year could reach 13,000 which will result in a greater workforce decrease, if those are not compensated by more recruitments. They estimate a decrease of 7,000-8,000 in the next two years and they demand net job creation.

Updated, 19/06/2014:
