Swiss food manufacturer Nestlé has announced plans to shut down its production unit in Timisoara by the end of May 2019. As a result, 388 employees will be made redundant. According to a spokesperson for the company, the decision was made due to the rapid change of the labour market, which is characterised by ‘new patterns of consumption and labour shortages, in a competitive environment’. Nestlé has started negotiations with the employees and the trade union in order to support the redundant workers. The 30 people employed at Nestlé’s financial service centre will not be affected by the closure and will continue to operate in a new location.
