Additional Information
As announced on 4 September 2020, the German online and mail order specialist Otto plans to close its returns processing site in Hamburg next year, which will result in the loss of 840 jobs. The company will offshore the activities to its sites in Poland and Czech Republic, because of lower costs. The closure of the Hamburg site is expected to take place in mid-2021 when current dismissal protection runs out.
The trade union Verdi is criticising this step and accusing Otto of showing no social responsibility, as most of the 840 employees are part-time working women, who will have difficulties finding a new job in the current crisis.
