Additional Information

Pilkington, manufacturer of flat glass, is closing down two of its units in Sweden affecting 350 employees. The closures are part of a restructuring program of the NSG Group which is to reduce capacity and output to match the requirements of its customers and to the weakened European market. The affected units are Pilkington Floatglas, manufacturer of flat glass in Halmstad, and Pilkington Automotive Sweden, a manufacturer of glass for vehicles in Landskrona.

230 workers are currently employed at the Pilkington Floatglas plant in Halmstad and will be let go. However, Pilkington will keep some functions for sales and services in Sweden. Negotiations are to begin the week of November 12 2012. Pilkington is the third largest employer in Halmstad and it is reported that the closure is bound to have further impact on subcontractors. There is no set date for when the closure will be implemented by, but the aim is for it to be completed as soon as possible.

The remaining 120 jobs will be lost in the closure of the Landskrona plant of Pilkington Automotive Sweden. The closure is expected to be completed during 2014.
