Additional Information

The Raffinerie Tirlemontoise produces sugar. In February 2004, the management announced a restructuring plan implying the closure of the Genappe site (employing 48) and the dismissal of 150 workers, without direct dismissals. In April, an agreement was reached between management, the Ministry of Employment and the workers. The job cuts will be achieved through early retirement measures in the four sites of the company. Workers aged 52 and more may apply for this scheme. 141 workers are concerned (71 in Tirlemont, 21 in Brugelette, 16 at Genappe and 33 in Wanze). The site of Genappe will close in the beginning of 2005; its workers will be redeployed in the other sites of the company. A conversion of the industrial site is considered, towards the production of biofuel.
